Did he cover starting the car? And the "other way of stopping". What's "the other way of stopping"? Throwing it in reverse. That … would do it.

The other way of stopping. God his timing is so great. I have that on vinyl. I should rip it.

Oh you must! and then when you've ripped it you really ought to zip it up and send me a copy *grins*

His timing was just immaculate. Even now, and it must be at least ten years since I last revisited it, I can still hear the pauses when I read.

It's a classic comedy album. Everyone should have a listen at least once.

On Bob Newhart, I had occasion to meet his mother a few months before she passed away. She was elderly and obstinate; but, dependent so when she wanted to get up to do something I asked her if she needed help to which she replied "What do I look like, a horses ass?" I responded "I don't know, I've never been this close to one." Then mother Newhart grumbled "Well, at least you've got a sense of humor." I could see that the apple hadn't fallen far from the tree.

Ooh look, it's a Greek Urn!

What's a Greek urn?

It's a large vase used by the ancient Greeks for storing liquids and grains.

I wasn't expecting you to give that answer.

Neither were thousands of smart-alec listeners.

A friend and I had that down pat. Nowadays we do it differently.

What's a Greek Urn?

About 30% less than he did two years ago...

Does anyone remember a tv show "Dave Allen At Large"?

One of the Nashville tv stations used to show his re-runs at midnight. Guy used to crack me up.

"Where'd ya get those lumps?"

I didn't know the TV show, but "my" generation of comedians revere him.

Oh I used to love Dave Allen's show. Don't know if it had the same name here. But that's another one that we used to gather as a family for.Come to think of it, TV pretty much formed the core of our family's interactions lol.

Funnily enough, I was intending, after our discussion on comeduans, to dig out a Dave Allen clip for this thread

One of the things I used to love with Dave Allen was his sign-off. 'May your God go with you'. I liked that. It was warm and inclusive.

I also remember being completely fascinated with the fact that one of his fingers had the top missing. Funny the stuff that sticks.

He always struck me as a class act. May be off the mark, but, that's how I took him.

My parents had Bill Cosby Wonderfulness and my brother and I listened to it over and over. Chicken Heart.

The next comedy album I remember is Wild and Crazy Guy. Had that one pretty memorized too.

And who could ever say enough about Newhart. I read I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This. I highly recommend.
