Errata on the "Jill Leaving" Incident.

I often don't bother responding to demonstrably false statements, but in this case, since the intent was slanderous, I have a few clarifications.

This is a conflation of two posts from different threads, relating to two discrete groups.

#1: In the "House Resolution" thread, I was accused of questioning Jill's knowledge of and ability to interpret news. After I explained that this was not the case, I deemed those who chose to continue these accusations as "weak-minded fools" and "sloppy thinkers." I maintain this position.

#2: In the "Hand Wringing" thread, I stated those who favor a moderation solution do not practice an adult thought process. I maintain this position.

Note that after Dana's repeated, dogged attempts to mischaracterize who I referred to with the above descriptors, I simply started using them interchangeably in order to comply with her wishes of painting me as a villain, i.e. "Okay, I'm the big bad boogeyman--so what’s your point?"

Summary of the topics of discussion:
On Jill leaving: People are free to make their own decisions. If you're leaving, leave.
On the issues, as described, with the Politics Forum: Don't know, don't care. Leave me out of it.
On employing more moderation on the Cellar: Don't want it, don't need it. Adults can handle their own affairs.
On responding to personal attacks against myself: If it is hypocritical for me to do so, then I am a hypocrite.

On starting two threads about this issue: you care
On claiming not to care: you're being intellectually dishonest
On being being intillectually dishonest: here's your second card :f28:
On Dana's "slander": be an adult. Flag here with the slander flag, and leave The Cellar, or don't, we don't care.:p:

If you are in favor of a "rules or moderation" solution, then you have the choice of either growing up and learning how adults interact, or fucking leaving the Cellar.
If you leave, don't feel like you need to make an announcement. Just go away and find someplace that you like.
The only people who have suggested moderation in one form or another, in this thread, are Undertoad, Aliantha, Limey, Footfootfoot, Griff and myself, though mine was a joke suggestion.

So, all these people are just childish idiots who need to grow the fuck up or leave the cellar?

Or was it aimed mainly at me? In which case it doesn't make a lot of sense as, my flippant comment about red and yellow cards aside, I have spent much of this thread arguing against increased moderation.

You have just characterised a bunch of people as childish because they have a different view of how the board might work to the one you hold. Whilst steadfastly refusing to engage with the issue at hand.

Seemingly it was you who engaged in conflation. From that post on I could quite rightly suggest that you had called those people weak-minded fools.

For a man who claims not to care you're doing a belting job of demonstrating the exact opposite. I'm also struck by how much you are making the affair all about you. Again for someone who claims he wants to be kept out of our petty squabbling, you're doing a bang-up job of placing yourself front and centre.

Keep it up though, please. It's terribly entertaining.

I'd be willing to try being a politics thread moderator (for one thread) if that would help to try an experiment?

I'd hardly call this statement "in favour of moderation". I was offering to help trial something. That doesn't make me in favour of it per se, in my view, simply in favour of trying it (along the lines of "I don't agree with what you say but support your right to say it").

DanaC 05-10-2011 10:13 AM

Well, to be honest, i think that was the tone of most of the people who proffered suggestions. I don't recall anyone arguing vehemently for more controls. A few suggestions were thrown out and discussed, and fairly quickly dismissed as unworkable or undesirable.

sexobon 05-10-2011 10:30 AM

Well that's it then: the only thing left to do is perform an animal sacrifice to appease the forum gods. Where's the monkey?

infinite monkey 05-10-2011 10:35 AM

Leave me out of it, sexobon bon bon sexobon bon.

I'm just here for the laughs. ;)

DanaC 05-10-2011 10:36 AM

OK, first of all, I want to be left out of this because I feel like I got lumped into something based on a misinterpretation of something I posted, generally about the nature of news and received information and the application of critical thinking skills or lack thereof. It was not intended to refer to anyone specifically, except a few of my ex-coworkers.

Secondly, Slander is spoken and libel is written. An easy mnemonic is S as in Slander and Spoken, Libel as in written, like books in a Library.

So, Flint was actually, possibly Libeled, not Slandered on this forum.

Thirdly, I am saddened immeasurably that not one of you dwellars has thought about the real loss to the community as a result of Jill's leaving and that is the near 100% likelihood that she would have been posting personal NSFW pics within a week or two of her recent return. I think that ship has sailed.

In conclusion, I hope you are all happy with yourselves and can sleep at night.

lookout123 05-10-2011 10:46 AM

considering Jill was really Redux's drag persona, I don't feel a real loss on the whole NSFW issue.

footfootfoot 05-10-2011 10:57 AM

I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit

SamIam 05-10-2011 11:21 AM

Why is this thread in Meta? Are Flint's disagreements with other members up in Homebase so profound that they must be hashed out here too?

So which is it, Flint? You're sounding a bit hypocritical to me.

You started an entire new thread down here, apparently because you feel so maligned. Maybe you should follow your own advise in the first quote. You jumped right into the "Jill" thread and remained there, making provocative comments. Why are you so surprised that you received replies in kind?

I award you the head bag for your pretense at cluelessness :headbag: and the bawling award for being able to dish it out, but not take it. :bawling:

Tater tots are good with mustard or ketchup.

But, baked beans need both.
