I asked dad (ninety last month) what he remembered of VJ Day.
He served in the Royal Navy on a landing craft carrier and said that there was an almost routine announcement of 'Stand to! Stand to! War is over'. They were landing troops up the coast from Singapore at the time and just carried on with the task. The ship didn't get back to the UK until 1946.
