I have two middle names, but one is out of permanent loan ...

The eleven year-old daughter of an acquaintance was hassling her mum for a middle name because she didn't have one (really she was trying to get her mum to marry mum's then boyfriend, I think ...). So, in jest, I told the girl I had two middle names and she could borrow one of mine if she promised to take care of it. I let her choose one of the two names and it's now hers, so long as she looks after it. She was thrilled, and still proudly uses this middle name two years or more later. Whenever I see her I ask whether she's dropped it, or scratched or damaged it in some way and she says no, she's taking good care of it and wants to keep it.

This is a true story.
