It's not that Vista is that bad. Vista will have teething problems since it is basically a completely rewritten OS. Windows 95 got the exact same criticisms. But Microsoft has a much larger problem. It is now being led by one without a vision. Ballmer is the classic MBA. He has no vision for Microsoft's future. He is trying to play catch-up on mature markets (ie Search) rather than channeling his company into new frontiers.

Google is what Microsoft should be doing - testing new markets with new products - sometimes dispensed in new ways.

Ballmer's lack of focus was demonstrated in the Yahoo fiasco. I give Ballmer much credit for walking away from a deal that could not happen. But Microsoft did not know what it wanted from Yahoo. Somehow if MSFT bought a big company, then it would have solved their problems? That is the same myth by another bimbo named Carly Fiorina when she enriched Compaq stockholders with a windfall profit. Fiorina used the same logic. We will be #1 or #2 in every market - therefore we will be profitable. Such M&A myths are common among those who don't understand business – who confuse a business’s objective with profits. Fiorina even violated principles that Bill and Dave used and John Chambers used to make growing and productive companies.

Now Ballmer wants to do the same thing. Even paying for expensive commercials (that also run too long) as if propaganda will fix his lack of vision. Only a fool throws big bucks like a grenade to obtain a solution.

Even Microsoft admits Vista has problems.
