I have a musical collaborator who is pretty well travelled (well, compared to me, anyway). She went to Barcelona a few years ago and has declared it to be her favorite city on Earth. Here's some of the very few things I remember from her videos and her raving about it:
Gaudi buildings, in particular La Familia Segreda, GOOD! In fact, architecture in general is very appealing. The older parts of the city are classic narrow European/Mediterranean, but Barcelona is a very modern, cosmopolitan city for all of its quaintness. She showed me video of an incredibly landscaped park, with very unusual buildings and walls, but that's all I recall about it. Looked like a 'must-see' sort of place to me. There are street musicians everywhere, playing the most interesting sorts of music, in particular Catalonian. The musicians are friendly and very, very talented. The food is amazing, the restaurants plentiful as you might expect from a Mediterranean city.
I'm sure there is much more. Summary: very, very cool place.
