Barcelona

Anyone know anything about Barcelona (the one in Spain)?

I saw the Olympics on television.

Anything else? Possibly more specific to the city?

I believe the city is where humans live in greater density than say, the country.

Great Buildings On-Line
Cool -type in building or architect.

I have a musical collaborator who is pretty well travelled (well, compared to me, anyway). She went to Barcelona a few years ago and has declared it to be her favorite city on Earth. Here's some of the very few things I remember from her videos and her raving about it:

Gaudi buildings, in particular La Familia Segreda, GOOD! In fact, architecture in general is very appealing. The older parts of the city are classic narrow European/Mediterranean, but Barcelona is a very modern, cosmopolitan city for all of its quaintness. She showed me video of an incredibly landscaped park, with very unusual buildings and walls, but that's all I recall about it. Looked like a 'must-see' sort of place to me. There are street musicians everywhere, playing the most interesting sorts of music, in particular Catalonian. The musicians are friendly and very, very talented. The food is amazing, the restaurants plentiful as you might expect from a Mediterranean city.

I'm sure there is much more. Summary: very, very cool place.

You can search by city at that site as well. If you search Barcelona you get Park Guell along with a lot of other really interesting architecture.

I'll have to take a look at the site you mentioned. I've been digging around on www.bcn.es and news://rec.europe.travel for info.

Park Guell...yup, that's the place. Awesome. The pics on the Great Buildings site do not do it justice by a long shot. Another Gaudi design, I should have remembered that.

Griff 03-13-2003 08:26 AM

The sites a good idea but it has some terrible holes in it. For instance it has Syracuse, New York but fails to mention my favorite building, Ni Mo's art deco masterpiece.

better pic scroll down

Awesome! We've got some nice Deco on our municipal buildings here in KC, but nothing as tres cool as that!

Nice park! BCN Parks. You can check out the BCN website at www.bcn.es. From the left toolbar, click on the Tourism link for all the good stuff.
