Oct 21st 2005, World Wind 1.3.3 released
World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there.
Virtually visit any place in the world. Look across the Andes, into the Grand Canyon, over the Alps, or along the African Sahara.

This is a nice complement to Google Earth.

It has always freaked me out that I live precisely on top of of a dividing line between topo maps. Check out these coordinates in World Wind/Topo View:

worldwind://goto/world=Earth&lat=38.88430&lon=-94.50034&alt=6752&dir=5.1&tilt=0.4

They don't line up. That skews my view of the world somehow.

That's the most original excuse I've ever heard.
