Anti-Virus Hell

Heatseeker • Aug 11, 2005 4:50 pm
I picked up a virus that kept itself in C:windowsest and Mcafee couldn't get rid of it properly so I installed Norton too. The thing is I didn't uninstall Mcafee first. Now my PC freezes shortly after logging in.

Please help me if you think there is anything I can do to fix this.

First, start drinking heavily. I recommend straight bourbon or scotch. After a couple of water glasses full, boot into Safe Mode, and go to Control Panel. Select Install/Uninstall, and uninstall both of the virus programs.

Then, try to reboot.

Good Scotch should be taken neat. It is acceptable to drink good Kentucky or Tennessee bourbon with a whisper of soda and some ice.

I find a little water releases the smell and flavor.

Did I really mean he should go to a website that is loaded with tools to handle problem viruses? Why wouldn't I mean it? :eyebrow:

You are young, Grasshopper, and will learn.

The first part of the lesson is to drink no Scotch without finding the words "single malt" upon the label.

The second part of the lesson is that even these words lack promise when the price tag is under $40 US.

Good scotch should not be exposed to the air on an overly humid day.

That is why beer was invented.

Here's how to fix this one:

1. Restart in Safe Mode.
2. Start -> Run -> services.msc (type this in).
3. Set all McAfee services (the ones that begin with McAfee) to "Disabled" in the Services control panel applet that shows up.
4. Restart PC.
5. Uninstall all McAfee products using Add/Remove Programs.
6. Reinstall Symantec, if needed.
7. Drink.
