DVD/VCR Player

Christmas of 2003 my son got a Sylvania DVD/VCR player. I know it plays both DVD's and VHS tapes, and records from the TV onto a VHS tape. But can you possibly record a DVD onto a VHS tape in that one player? I cannot find the book or paperwork, but it seems that when we first got it, we determined that it could not be done.

They are usually designed so you can't do direct copying.

you can do it as long as the DVD does not have MacroVision copy protection. If you burned it in, say, your computer and want to transfer it to VHS for grandma, that's fine and dandy.

It is possible to bypass MacroVision in certain models of DVD players but I won't get into that here.

DVD/VCR Player . A player of any kind can't burn or copy. IMO

I have one of these things...a Pioneer I got for Christmas and it seems we have been able to record from video to DVD and DVD to video. I will look around for that instruction manual again.

Player is the key word. Might be like, I saw a pack of dvd-rs on a friend's desk other day & ask why. He told that someone had told him about a software to use them with a cdburner. Hello. Maybe a GREAT big firmware upgrade. Like a dvd burner. :smack:

Thanks everyone for the info! I was feeling too lazy when I posted that to actually go see what I could figure out. If it will work at all, I may get lucky on this particular DVD, I don't think it has MacroVision copy protection, but I may be wrong. It's a DVD of the last race at the Primm, Nevada sand drag track. I'm not sure where the guy got a hold of it, but it's not like a rented DVD.
And case....if you should find anything that may help, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
