DSL modem fees

Today I got a notice from phone co. Pay 2.95 a month for modem maint. or pay 150.00 for new one + 35.00 for installation, if this one goes bad.
Is this common? or just something else they have dreamed up?

BTW, the phone co. owns the dsl & cable also. Last month they added a 1 buck inside wire main. charge on cable. !@#$% I nstalled the inside cable. Go figure. BB

I'm currently paying $3-4 a month to rent my cable modem...I'll probably buy one outright shortly. When I had DSL, I got the modem for free, sorta...I had to commit for a year.

Same here, I've had the thing about 2 1/2 years.

I misread your post, Buster...my apologies.

What they're doing is SOP these days. If the deductable is low or zero on a replacement, I'd pay for the plan.

So if something happens to the wire you installed they have to fix it because your paying them $1 a month inside wire maintenance?
Can you decline that option and take care of the inside yourself? I'd question them on it, as they may just add it on and only remove people that bitch. :eyebrow:

Oxb I can do that. the deal today was the one that set me off. I e-mailed them about getting my own modem. The phones will be hot tomorrow. GRRRRR

I pay 100RMB/Month for the ADSL fee in china and the modem is free.it is all , include fee of maintenance, inside wire and outside wire,etc....I think the fee in china maybe is more cheaper than in usa.hehe.... :D
PS: 100RMB=10$
