Their drilling infrastructure will destabilize if/when the permafrost goes. That would be a hell of a mess.

Thermosiphons are creatures from Harry Potter, right?

They are used on each support where the pipeline from the North Slope to valdez is elevated for wildlife passage. The keep the heat transferred from the oil to the pipe to the supports from melting the permafrost.
