They do manage to walk a tightrope between comedy, office drama, and Star Trek. Part of the success is that your guard goes down watching some silliness and next thing you know you're knee deep in Space Opera. In a way that's more real, we live our lives and the big shit coming down may or may not ever bump into us. I really doubted they could pull it off.
