Directory Listings

I know there MUST be an easier way to do this. Using WinXP Pro, is there any way to get a text listing of all of the files in a directory? (I spent an hour putzing with the DOS method, and got no where but frustrated.)

I have a directory called "aliases" on my C: drive, which is full of batch files and teeny executables that mimic most basic UNIX commands. Just for such an emergency.

Of course, it screws me over when I go to work on someone _else's_ computer, and I spend half an hour muttering "Why aren't cat, echo and less working?"

Well, on Windows I try to use Cygwin where I can. On Linux, I have 'clear' symlinked to 'cls', because before the symlink, there was untold frustration and loud cursing everytime I typed the wrong one. :)

I spend half an hour practicing my DOS daily. Just as my mother told me concerning the piano, it may come in useful someday.

I'm still waiting.

No, actually, I know my CD (chdir) thanks *G*

I was having a completely dense moment and could not figure out what I was doing that would keep me from changing directories. (That took about 2 minutes....) it was after that, that I spent futzing around with how to write that sillly text file.
