Decent Travel Camera

Hey there everybody. I was hoping somebody could recommend as decent travel camera. I understand many folk just use their smartphone cameras in this day of age, but I have always enjoyed my photography and while I wouldn't claim to be any kind of expert, I do like shooting with something a bit better than a standard point and shoot. I've seen Fujifilm digital cameras for sale online and I'm really impressed with their X-Range. Both compact and with a great lenses, they offer the same quality as a DSLR according to the reviews. Is anybody else is shooting with a Fuji camera? Can anybody recommend them based on experience? Or would anybody recommend against and for what reason? Looking forward to hearing the thoughts of others.

I just spent 5 minutes looking at image samples from various Fujifilm cameras that have model numbers starting with an X. They look nice if you can afford them.

They seem to mostly all use an APS-C sensor, which is physically larger than a typical consumer grade point and shoot, but not as large as a full sized pro DSLR sensor. The larger the sensor, the better the image because noise is reduced.

The prices on the Fujifilms cameras are pretty high, so you are paying for that quality.

Every camera is a trade off. Every camera. You gain something, and you give something up.

With these cameras, you get image control. You get nice results from the sensor. You give up some cash because they are expensive, and you give up portability and spontaneity, because you need to carry around a bunch of lenses.

My personal experience from having a moderate interest in photography, having an SLR, and looking for pocket able cameras that take higher quality pictures is a strong preference for Canon.
They have a large range to find one that fits your niche of price and performance.
We had a fujifilm point and shoot years ago, it did take nice pictures.

I can recommend that one stay away, far away, from the FujiFulm FinePix S3280 (a large point and shoot 24x zoom bridge camera, and my personal camera, atm). The lens is just too slow.

It does take good panoramas and macros, though.

My friend's Lumix takes astounding photos. It's even got an optical zoom.

My brother has a Lumix and its waterPROOF as well. Outstanding when doing anything in, on or near the wetness.

I have a Lumix (FZ70) and it can be outstanding. It can also be a pain in the ass, not doing what I want it to be doing.

Thanks for the pointers guys. I'll check out both Canon and Lumix. (And cats and dogs!)

That was a nice try, making the link black and in a reply so we wouldn't notice.

It got past me.

I figured he was a spammer, but played along. Because why not? It's a decent topic. I was waiting for the spam and didn't see it when it came.

You will learn, padawan, nothing gets by Yodatoad. ;)

He only put it in his own, quoted reply...! "digital cameras for sale" was linked and color set to black, but it was still underlined as a link.

How much time did that take and is now wasted?
