I just did "breakfast recipe -pinterest" and didn't get a single pinterest result in the first two pages.
The google search engine uses the minus to exclude the word directly after it. Make sure there isn't a space between the minus and pinterest

Personal Block List a chrome extension that allows you to block search results by domain.
Fuck pinterest. It doesn't seem to block them as image search results, though. :(
