For example, software download drops a desktop icon for all users, where is that directory? Thank you in advance.

Not a geek, but, I Googled...

Make sure Show hidden files is selected under Tools, Folder Options, View.

Then it is located at:

C:\Users\Public\Default\Desktop

Does this help?

C:\Users\Public\Desktop

Had to go to Control Panel, Folder Options to display hidden folders.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Significant additional information (so each computer can say what exists) is detailed in a private message.

Let me know if it works and how well.

I'll give it a shot. Running Win7 Pro, SP1. Brand new HP EliteBook workstation with all the HP bloatware still intact.
