From my research, this is the best way to connect a hi def tv to the cable box and dvd/blue ray player. There are a variety of cables, and not much info about the differences.
Does anyone have advice about what to make sure to buy, or what to avoid?
Don't spend more than 20 dollars including shipping on a cable. They are digital, so they either work perfectly, or they don't work at all. It's not like if you get gold plated connectors on a Monster cable they will do the job any better.
Go to newegg and buy a $5 cable with $10 shipping.

That's exactly what I was looking at.:)
Or you could get one of these.
Well, it DOES include an ethernet connector.
Wait,
here's a better one. Only $10K. If you read the reviews though, it's worth it.
Hey, that's almost exactly what the repair costs on my car were!
Man, who buys those? Cable Barons?
Seriously, though.
Wikipedia has a chart to tell you about the different (1.0 through 1.4) versions. I'm 99% sure that all versions will work equally well in your situation, but you might want to read your owner's manuals to see if there is some feature you have that requires the latest (1.4) version. Or just buy the version 1.4 because it's backwards compatible.

It's funny to see "what people bought after viewing this item"
LOL.

That's great. Once I bought a Horse Head Mask, then I was immediately moved to buy a cable!
works of genius.
I think I picked up my HDMI at Harbor Freight, if theres one nearby, no shipping.

Hdmi and DVI are the same thing ,
hdmi has sound ,
Dvi doesn't,
depending on how you have your sound arranged Dvi may do for your video
We have a receiver that will do Dolby 7 (10 speakers Byotches !!!),
One thing i have learned though is that Coax ( Plain old cable ) is FASTER than HDMI , ( More info to process ) as in we some time have an echo from our kitchen tv to our living room setup ,
ive tryed switching over to Optical sound cables , it helps , but there is Still a slight delay between the 2,
yes the kitchen tv feeds from the setup in the living room

I would like to see what happens if you put one of those $10,000 cables on Quibids (which has to be the most lucrative legal scam I've ever heard of).
Some people has plenty money and no brains. Some people has plenty brains and no money. Surely the people with plenty money and no brains was made for the people with plenty brains and no money.

don't pay more than $1.97 for a 3ft
Thanks, Tony. They came yesterday, and I hooked one up to Fios. On the tv was a message that said something like "your display is not authorized to recieve high quality digital signal". When I turn it on, it says 1080, and I've been using component video for the 4 weeks we've owned it.
What The F?

Just saw one is coming to Pennsauken, NJ, near work.
It's not the "you are not subscribed" message?
I plugged it in again, to get the exact wording, and it worked. I don't get it, but I'll take it.
With our comcast you have to subcribe extra for HD 'digital' programming, of course it all comes down the cable digitally, they just only give you analogue outputs if you don't pay the extra.
Is this what you're seeing, your box knows you are making a digital connection, but you don't have that service.
