Black screen this am after most recent windows update

running xp, sp3 shut it down last night and the machine was loading the updates. this morning I turned it on and I can hear the drives whirring and clicking away, but black screen, no cursor.

Will show a screen in safe mode, checked error logs and got "device attached to system not functioning" and a bunch of tcpip errors. It thought that was an sp2 problem anyway.

Tried safe mode system restore a few times and was unable to restore.

I've tried clean startup and diagnostic startup and full start up.

Can't do a device check in safe mode.

any ideas?

Uninstall the graphics driver, and use the default Windows one, and see if it boots in non-safe-mode? Then put new drivers on afterwards?

Frigging thing is working after I removed the driver and downloaded the new fresh and sparkly one.
