High Fuel Efficiency cars

Across the street from work is an event featuring a bunch of cars that are extremely fuel efficient. I stopped by with my camera when they were setting up, so I don't know all the details, but I was able to take a bunch of pictures. Some of the cars are not very practical, but a couple are, and most fall somewhere in between.

This was my favorite, so I took a few pictures. It reminded me of a really old Porsche. Turns out, it's modled after 1930's era sports cars. It looked like fiberglass construction over foam.

It's really long. It would be hard to find a long enough parking place for it at the grocery store. But it seats 4 and has a huge trunk.

This one had no information placard, but looked cool.

I'm going to assume that the 98 is its gas mileage.

This car was under a cover, so we have the informational placard only.

I hope this wasn't too many images, but I figured a few people would find them interesting.

Yup. Definitely.

nope - YUP!!! Very cool.

Why does that one have such a long trunk though. That killed it for me.

I went back over there during lunch. It turns out this was the awards ceremony to award $10 Million in prizes to 4 different categories.

One of the cars earlier had no information with it earlier. I got the handout sheet at lunch. This was one of the winners. $2.5M. It has an engine and runs on ethanol for a typical car range and gets 103 MPGe. It looks funny, but it's basically a normal car. Seats four. Has a trunk. And a long range. Be nice if it took unleaded though.

This one was covered up when I was here before. I'd seen other products by this same company years ago, but this one is really efficient. It's a basically a battery powered enclosed motocycle. This is another winner. $2.5M.

This is a 3rd winner, but I don't know anything about them because they had no information posted. Looks like you can buy one of these though.

This was one of the cars that didn't win.

And then it was over. People started hopping in to these cars and driving away. This car was covered before.

Damn glatt you never said that Pelosi was the one giving out the awards. Heck with enough warning I could have driven down to say hi to her. ;)

Pelosi ~ addressed an X Prize awards ceremony honoring the winners of a contest to build a safe car that gets at least 100 miles per gallon.

 I guess I missed that. I wasn't there for the actual ceremony.

Very cool glatt. I'm surprised how heavy some of those little cars are - over 3,000 lbs. I wonder if that's due to batteries.

Some of them are really nice looking but that orange one looks like a sardine can. I would love to get 200 mpg. * imagine*
