Homesquirrel needs a laptop

squirell nutkin • May 24, 2010 8:19 pm
Mrs. Nutkin needs a laptop for emailing, minimal image storing, writing, and quickbooks.

She is a klutz and doesn't usually stop to think that over ripe pears and electronics equipments shouldn't share the same pocket of her knapsack.

Any recommendations on what type of laptop might be best for her? I'm told Lenovo are fairly indestructible.

whatever you do, make sure you get one that has whatever the fvck tw kept repeating in that last debacle we had. something about diagnostics or something. because you want it to break well.

Mama loves her Acer Aspire One

Newegg netbooks with displays 11.6" or larger

This sounds like a job for Toughbook:

(There's a youtube link, but I can't seem to see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N53xYt_QXO4&NR=1)

As above, I'd go for the Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 Performance Model! (The most recent version - more durable than ever!)

It may cost a pretty penny... but you could store it in a bag made of over-ripe pears, and all that would change, would be that it is now a pear-smelling, but still fully-functional laptop!

You know you're all thinking of the same clone thread I'm thinking of. ;)

What did you do different (differently?)? I wrapped mine in those YouTube tags.

I do not have a Acer laptop but I sure do love my Acer mini desktop.

And you're just the one to give it to him.

I personally would lean toward Lenovo or Acer. But any of them can make a lemon on any given day, and in these days of microscopic profit margins on computers, nobody has really great customer service. YMMV.

We just got this one for Mrs. Dallas about a month ago, and she's very happy with it.

Don't bother getting a super-expensive laptop that's designed not to break. Just get a cheap Dell with their "Accidental Damage" warranty. If it breaks for any reason, they will send a tech out to you to replace/repair as needed, usually within a day or two.
squirell nutkin • May 27, 2010 8:54 pm
Oh yeah, forgot to mention the $500 budget.

If you're interested in the one I posted, Newegg has marked it down to $399.99 for their Memorial Day sale. I swear I'm not an employee or shill for either Newegg or Lenovo, but it caught my eye since it was the same one we had bought. (Of course lots of other places will be running sales this weekend too, not to mention graduation/father's day promotions.)

Thanks Steve, I saw that email this morning. I'm gonna jump on it.

You probably don't want to jump on it unless it's a Toughbook. The others are rather delicate.

Squirrels are much lighter than they appear. We're mostly fur.

But, with a mouth full of nuts, I'm sure you'll weigh more.

I don't think SN swings that way. :eyebrow:

Right again Pete!

Never heard of a squirrel that doesn't love nuts.

Maybe they're pretending not to, so you don't come after their secret stash?

Squirrels are sneaky, when it comes to nuts, and their love of them.

The prices for notebooks have been getting lower and lower...wireless even.
squirell nutkin • May 31, 2010 2:34 pm
Sweet! at that price I can buy a dozen and freeze the rest.
Gravdigr • May 31, 2010 6:12 pm
Heh. I read that as "...and free the rest."
