Picasa 3 is making donkey blowing overtures

For reasons I don't understand, Picasa 3 has begun to stall, act extremely slowly, give me (not responding) messages, pretend to close but continue to run in the background, not re-open unless I go to task mgr and end process.

I never had these problems with 2.7.

Come to think of it I never had these problems with a light table full of slides, why when I was a kid we had to skin out own cows to make emulsion and gather our own sand from the beach to make the glass for the glass plates...

Seriously, I am going back to 2.7

Interesting. I will have to check that out. brb.

I must have 2.7 because I am not having any problems.

Why Picasa and not Gimp? I've found Gimp to be pretty stable -- even on Windows.

So far I have had great success with Picasa, this is the first I have heard of any problems with it. But given that 3.0 is new, it is not unlike most new software. Buggy. Google will fix it.

I've been using Picasa for a while and like it. More than that I know it. I did download gimp the other day for some reason and started it up only to realize I have to learn how to use it and I don't really have the time for that now.

Discovered 3.1 is available, installed it and will check if it changes anything. I am going to see if throwing another Gig of ram at my machine helps matters. I wonder if I have crossed the tipping point of the combined size of my files.

One thing I did was to buy extra space from Google for $10 per year. I don't know if that has made a difference in how it works on their servers.

HA! I discovered the problem. I had set it to scan all the folders all the time. I guess it took me seriously. Changed it to scan only the active image containing folders all the time, everything else scan once.

All working good now, never mind. [/rosannadanna]

yea, I think that function is on the earlier version as well. You have to manually set it not to look at all the pics because it just made it a redundent photo editor program like the other 3 I already have.
