DLT life under COLD conditions?

It seems like extreme cold conditions would make the tape brittle, and thus more prone to damage. It occurs to me because there's a giant APC cooling unit blowing right at one of my racks that loads a DB backup tape right there on the front panel. These tapes are COLD when I change them out. That can't be good.
