G-Phone

TheMercenary • Sep 17, 2008 8:28 pm
Looks like it is going to give i-phone a run for the money. I would be interested. But I think they are only going to run on T-moblie, so that means I will not get one.

Sounds like a phone made for women....
TheMercenary • Sep 17, 2008 10:09 pm
Why?
Clodfobble • Sep 17, 2008 10:36 pm
Because women have a G-spot.
TheMercenary • Sep 17, 2008 10:44 pm
Ok, well that makes sense.

I like to touch the G-spot so I want one of those phones.
lumberjim • Sep 18, 2008 12:03 am
who will be making one for verizon?
classicman • Sep 19, 2008 10:10 am

So. The new Google phone is the Pixel.

I was teetering on the verge of upgrading my Note 4 to the 7, when that blew up in Samsung's face.

The Pixel XL seems to be the biggest benefactor of Samsungs bad luck. There are a couple draw backs, like the Verizon exclusivity.... But then I was considering switching carriers to either blue or red anyway. Pink is fine near home, but I've had no service far too much to stay. I had yellow before pink, and had similar issues, just in different places. The thing that made me switch was the lack of signal on my front porch.

So, red is fine. I forget what the other negative thing was. It's not very pretty maybe.

And back ordered until 11/18... But 8 can wait.

What do you think of this phone, nerds?
lumberjim • Oct 21, 2016 1:02 am
Oh. No removable memory card. That kind of sucks. So pick 32 or 128 gb. That's some apple bullshit. It's gonna be a pain moving all my shit from the old phone.

Pixel is unlocked and can operate on all networks. verizon is the only wireless carrier selling it, and If you need a BLUE PHONE, you have to buy it from verizon. But regardless of where you buy it, best buy, Google store, eBay, whatever, the phone's ready to work on all the networks.

I'm on a wait list for the128 gb version.
lumberjim • Oct 21, 2016 4:12 am
I think I'll await your review then. Are you going XL by chance?
lumberjim • Oct 21, 2016 4:29 am
I like the blue. I would choose that, everything being equal... But if I can just buy one cash and not deal with the provider change until after the current maelstrom of changes subsides, I think I don't really care so much about what color the fucking thing is. I typically buy 11teen cases of varying hue and ruggedness shortly after getting a new phone, anyways.

I say phone. That's not at all what these things are anymore. What else do you own that gets more time in front of your eyes? Phones go in your ear. These devices are our window to the world at this point.

An all day battery and a fast reliable OS is like having 20/20 vision. I'm adding 'phones' to my list of things that you should not spare expense on. The list:

1. Your Bed
2. Shoes
3. Cell phone
4. Helmets
5 ...

5. Tires.

Tools.

I will be getting the XL. It's only a bit larger, but the resolution is higher too. Also, the bigger case/screen/phone permits a larger battery. All other aspects of the hardware are identical between the phones.

And the carrier/plan I'm going to go with is Project Fi.

Why doesn't it tell you which 3 major networks it uses?
lumberjim • Oct 23, 2016 9:48 am
What about the One plus 3? Anyone ever even seen one?

Maybe I'll just hang in with the Note 4 until Samsung makes the note 8
Undertoad • Oct 23, 2016 12:41 pm
I got a replacement Galaxy S5 on an extended warranty issue, and then I bought a replacement battery. So it's like I have a new older phone. I love the new bigger phones but for what price?

This is a good plan for people on a budget, actually: a NEW S5 on eBay is about $200. So, if you're a power user, once in a while it runs out of system memory and there's a little lag switching apps.

That's the biggest difference right now between that $200 phone and a new $500 phone.
Undertoad • Oct 23, 2016 12:43 pm
New Note 4 around $300 on the bay
lumberjim • Oct 23, 2016 2:12 pm
I really do like this phone. (note 4)It's paid for now, so I can unlock it when I get around to it. My main complaint is that it only gives me half a day on the battery. I tried buying a new battery, but it's the same. Also, sometimes it just shuts down at 25% battery and won't come back in unless I charge it fir a bit.... Then it's like 46% when it comes on. Weird.
captainhook455 • Oct 23, 2016 9:43 pm
I guess you don't have Cricket down south joisey? Unlimited everything for $35 month. Less if drafted. If a phone runs constantly then leave it on the charger. Our power company said that if a phone was on a charger for a year, it would use 17¢ in juice. If I trade my phone then theirs is free.
