A friend gave me a disc of photos from her camera and mac computer which were saved as .DAT files.

photoshop, windows picture and fax viewer, picture viewer and quicktime won't open the files. IS there some mojo that will allow me to open thema nd edit them in p'shop?
?

Sounds like your friend might need to try and burn those photos with a different program.

There is a small, free (last I knew) program called IRFANVIEW. It works like a charm opening oddball files. I'm not sure if it's available for a Mac, I use it on XP. Seek for IRFANVIEW and ye shall find ...

I use that app for small resizing/resampling etc. jobs.

XNView (search for this) will open darn near anything made, including certain files such as this. It's free, and runs on OS X.
