Search Google by Date

Filtering Google searches by time periods has been one of the most frequently requested features. By manipulating the search URL, you can trigger Google's 'filter by data dropdown box' to appear. With this drop down box, you can easily select what time dates you want Google to filter the results.

First goto Google and enter your search term. Next, add '&as_qdr=d' to the end of the URL and press enter.
A dropdown box will appear.

No worky for me. Must be doing something wrong.

Do a search (without the extra stuff) and hit enter, then add &as_qdr=d from Bruce's quote (without quotation marks) to the end of the URL in the address bar. It took me about 4 tries to get it right.

Here's an example that will search for "Biomass Power" with the date range selection.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=biomass+power&btnG=Search&as_qdr=d

Note the addition of the &as_qdr=d at the end of the address, after the word "Search."

It's a pretty cool trick. I like it.

I'd also like to see searches by date ranges. Like, what did web pages from 2007 have to say about "x."

Where is the drop down box with date ranges?

You can also access the same functionality (and more) if you click "Advanced Search" to the right of the search box.

Between the search box and the search button, if you're doing it right.

Then click on, "Date, usage rights, numeric range, and more".

I see it now. Have still not mastered it yet.

Hi Guys,

I've recently wrapped this functionality up into a Greasemonkey script, if you'd like it you can get here: http://monkeyplustypewriter.blogspot.com/2008/05/google-search-by-date.html

Cheers,

Steve.
