Enlighten:
I think they are time travelers, and that they are who we will be in the future. I think they are trying to educate us, and are here trying to stop past actions that have destroyed the earth and the human race.

Or again:

They are more evolved versions of humans again, and that they have come from the future to take over the home planet because it was destroyed and they will have to eat us to create enough room for everyone from their home planet (not as good as earth).

I just don't think they are being very effective if they are time travellers come to enlighten us. They mostly end up on autopsy tables in the 40s.
