Surface

Surface multi-touch...Mmmm...I want one of these and am just going to have to drool. If one of you wins the lottery and happens to like me, this is a great gift idea....If not, I am humble enough just to accept the thought of you coming into large amounts of money and the thought of getting one of these for me.

Thank you for the kind thought if you had one.:D

Oh, and the wall version please...I don't want the coffee table version. (too much hunching and bending over for large amounts of time and I would set random crap all over it and break it)

Yea...I'll just be over here. (in my wildest dreams)

I've seen it in action on tv, most recently on CNN's political coverage. Anderson Cooper manipulates it on a vertical screen the size of a quarter of a ping pong table... reallllly cool looking. All the "pulling apart" of the diagonally opposite corners to zoom/enlarge an image. Touching an icon on the margin of the screen and then using his finger to color or draw... slick. It will be easy to see, hard to miss now that election season is amping up.

i think the obvious comment here is:

Cicero, I've got a surface you are free to manipulate to your heart's content.

So, if you use this thing on a regular wall, won't it get all dirty in just a short time? People's hands are filthy.
Flint • Feb 25, 2008 4:45 pm
I'm not sure what you mean "on a regular wall" but the answer is yes, it will get filthy. It needs a self-clean cycle. I'm always seeing greasy fingerprints all over the $10,000 hi-res monitors on the systems I support, and this is just from people pointing at static images.

Probably less filthy than this nasty keyboard and mouse that I just cleaned with alcohol.

I am willing to keep it clean.:D
oh and I was thinking of using gloves in this dreamworld where I actually own one. (In my dreamworld I have thin cashmere gloves)

When it can project holograms so I can play animated chess like Chewbacca and R2D2, then I'll be interested.
lookout123 • Feb 26, 2008 3:18 pm
you know the porn industry will develop that capability first. I'm sure they'll work on chess a bit later though.

Coming in April. Wait. It's already April
Cicero • Apr 2, 2008 5:09 pm
Yes it is April. But it is not April 17th.....and I'm not in a city that is going to display it.

I won the Lottery today!
Well, 2 lottery scratchcards. £15 ($30)

I was told somethign I bought last week should have come from Petty Cash, so I blew the money on scratchcards - which I never usually buy! £4 invested, £15 returned. And no, I have no intention of "re-investing" the money. It's in my piggy bank.

But back to the OT - I can see it's the way of the future. But basic things like adequate office lighting will need to be addressed first! I'd rather get an ergonomic chair and keep my keyboard.

Does this mean Microsoft Windows will eventually be renamed Microsoft Surface?

Microsoft's Surface coffee-tables find a home in AT&T stores.

AT&T will soon be the first company to use Microsoft's touch-enabled, tabletop Surface computers as customer-service kiosks in stores.
The carrier said Wednesday that beginning April 17, Microsoft Surface computers will be set up in select retail locations in New York, Atlanta, San Antonio, Texas, and San Francisco.
* In Pictures: Microsoft's Multi-Touch 'Surface' Table
AT&T plans to use Microsoft Surface computers to provide information to customers about mobile devices and other products being sold in its retail outlets. Customers can find out the particulars of a device simply by placing it on the Surface screen; the information will automatically appear on the screen by reading sensors in the devices. Customers also can compare devices side-by-side this way.
