How the heck do you remove an EZPass thing from your windshield?

SteveDallas • Dec 6, 2007 12:32 pm
The subject says it all. I thought this would be a) straightforward and b) easily google-able.
Happy Monkey • Dec 6, 2007 12:37 pm
One of these, maybe?
lookout123 • Dec 6, 2007 12:40 pm
hammer?
LJ • Dec 6, 2007 12:43 pm
sledgehammer from the outside until it is jarred loose.

actually, isn't it velcroed? I thought they had 2 layers of it on them, so you could move it? if not, just get one of those suction cup holder things $6 in my parts dept if you want me to send you one.
classicman • Dec 6, 2007 1:04 pm
mine is a very strong velcro which is adhered to the windshield with doublefaced tape.
BrianR • Dec 6, 2007 3:12 pm
hot hair dryer will soften the adhesive, then peel it off with a scraper or razor blade.

I recommend LJ's idea of a suction cup mount, that's what I use in my truck.
SteveDallas • Dec 6, 2007 3:19 pm
No, it's a rubbery-looking translucent thick adhesivy gunk--no velcro. Hmmm we'll see about the hair dryer.
LJ • Dec 6, 2007 3:32 pm
OH....that stuff....
yeah....razor blade and then lighter fluid to get the excess...or googone or goof off.

Mine too, and its right in the way of the auto-headlight sensor. Which sucked anyway.

How about Goo Gone?
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 7, 2007 12:23 am
Acetone (nail polish remover).
LabRat • Dec 7, 2007 10:17 am
Oooh, be careful with the acetone, if you don't want to ruin your dash...
busterb • Dec 7, 2007 10:31 am
Baby oil works on some things.
binky • Dec 7, 2007 2:05 pm
 works on me

Goo Gone and hairdryer, that is how I removed those ugly stickers on my motorcycle gas tank. Put on GG and let it soak in. Heat with hairdryer, use one edge razor blade if on glass and repeat till it is all gone.

Just don't get it on anything other than the glass, it will ruin plastic and paint.

Petrol and pipe bomb. The final answer.
(You have insurance?)

Only Ted would suggest a pipe bomb as the answer to the problems... HEH!:3eye:

I would order one on Ebay. Shaped charges are so high tech - the new vogue in some countries.

Anybody have an old cell phone they want to sell cheap? Safety first, you know. Best to not be too close to toxic cleaning materials.
SteveDallas • Dec 8, 2007 10:18 am
It was Velcro. Just really thick, plastic-y looking Velcro. (Dual Lock, to be specfic.) Though the whole episode did have the side benefit of getting my daughter to retrieve a bottle of fingernail polish remover from wherever it was.
classicman • Dec 8, 2007 10:23 am
Theyused to have much cheaper Vecro years back and the units were falling from the windshields causing damage and accidents. Happened to my mom.

Now try to glue that rear view mirror to the windshield. Want a challenge? The EZ-Pass may stick forever. But it takes a special glue to keep the rearview mirror from repeatedly falling off.
Razzmatazz13 • Dec 8, 2007 8:57 pm
Do you know what sort of glue this is? Cause my mom has had trouble with her rearview mirror forever now...last time it fell off, it took a chunk of the windshield with it...
