I'm all over that.
not stalking ya!
I think the walls look seriously cool!
"People who want glass houses should drink Heiniken!"
So now it's possible to drink yourself into a house.
I love the future. :]
I want a bigger study... *goes out to buy beer*.
Hmmmmm.... *rethinks atheism based on Franlkin quote*
Very useful for building college dorms.....Well gotta go! The dog I don't have needs a dog-house!
This is great, but there a few things I'm wondering about.
Do they plug the necks of the bottles? If not, wouldn't it get all gungy in there? dust, spiderwebs, moisture, algae ... also, if the necks were outside, when the wind was just right you'd get a wind-splitter effect, leading to amazing whistling noises. Might be fun ... for a short while.
EDIT: I have just noticed how the necks of the bottles nest snugly into the base of the next bottle. Very suggestively, in fact. You'd still get the issue with the corner ones, though. And do you really want your house smelling of stale beer?
Would it act as double glazing/insulation, even if the necks were left open? If they were closed, would there be expansion pressure problems?
I don't think this would be a good way of building a college dorm. Pretty soon some idiot with a baseball (or some deliberate hooligan with a baseball bat) is going to let fly ... hate to have to repair this.
Glass is relatively easy and economical to recycle. This re-use is cool, but not really heroic from an environmental perspective.
It's still cool though.
Kind of like how my joke flew and then was destroyed.
:)
I can't believe you are in Japan and waste time here.
It appears that the necks nestle into the base of the adjoining bottle, and the mortar seals them shut. The corners are unsealed because there is nothing to nestle into.
I imagine the performance is similar to glass block, which means they are not load bearing and they are a poor insulator compared to a regular wall.
They sure look cool though. They could probably be used anywhere that glass block is used.
Kind of like how my joke flew and then was destroyed.

WASTE???? How dare you? Speak ill of the cellar, you'll get yours.
Bear in mind the local TV is (a) incomprehensible to me and (b) crap, even according to people who can understand it, so the net is my easiest home entertainment.
Nah, really, I have a crush on you Cicero. That's why I keep stalking you around the boards like this. It has
nothing to do with post count.
NOTHING.Zen, if you think that I am afraid of a little stalking and will stay away from the cellar......you have it wrong buddy. Your tactics are getting more and more obvious here. Are you trying to create a false sense of stalking? I'm on to you sucka.
:D
It's simple: I am jealous of your Japan-ness.
Slang is living my dream in the Phillippines and alas, I now have someone throwing Japan in my face.
:o
(I think someone is taking that stalking comment from a few weeks ago a little too seriously now) :)

Hehehe.... well I should say that being in Japan is - most of the time - about equally interesting as being in one's home country. I'm working most days, and living in a city which is roughly approaching the standard international homogenization, and am excluded from many of the more interesting cultural activities by my linguistic incompetence. It is only occasionally that I get to see startlingly 'foreign' things.
Speaking of which ... I know there was a Japanese Giant Penis Festival as IotD a long time ago, but I have pictures of a
different Japanese Giant Penis Festival. Are people interested in seeing them? Should I forward to UT?

Yes and Yes. If he doesn't want them for IotD material, then you should post them yourself somewhere.
I've been saving my green, 750ml S.Pellegrino sparkling mineral water bottles. Not sure
what I'm going to do with them...
I saw a set of giant penis festival shots recently but most of them were from last year. If you have current ones that are quality, they will surely make an IotD repeat.
