Apple has a double standard regarding content in their iTunes store

Most songs of the same...well...song are both the clean and explicit versions (i.e.: 2 versions of "Hallowed Be Thy Name", one clean, the other explicit).

What I don't understand is that among the explicit music videos that they have, some of their music videos are edited so the cuss words are blanked out when the song by itself has all the cuss word goodness left intact, which is the way I prefer.

I hate to tell you, but that has to be a typo. Personal Jesus is Depeche Mode.

No, Manson did a cover (click here). I've heard both of 'em.

I emailed Apple about this yesterday...just got their response:

To ensure that all artists are treated fairly, Apple's policy is not to censor or edit artist content that may be "explicit". We are not the originators of the content; we upload the videos and movies provided to us by the originators.

By originators, I assume they mean the labels, cuz I doubt the artists would do this to their own videos.

The last time I bought anything from the Apple store it wouldn't let me access it when I switched computers and it wouldn't let me transfer it anywhere. Sure, it's probably a quick fix, but I'm going to keep downloading my music free the way I want it until they make it not a pain in the ass to purchase anything without messing it up with DRM bullshit.

That said, it doesn't surprise me that they loused up something else with censorship.

Any of you heard about Radiohead's latest download idea? They are making the tracks available for download, and people pay what they think its worth :P

So, as long as you pay the admin/download fee of about £0.60 you can choose whether and at what level to pay for the song, or album.

I am so excited about In Rainbows! I will probably over pay.

It's a good idea. Some folks are realizing that the internet has changed the way music is purchased and listened too, and as theotherguy said he will probably overpay. I think that most people will to support the idea, in addition they're cutting out a lot of middle men by hanging it online.

I hope that this idea catches on.
