Perseid meteor shower

Don't forget to watch the skies tonight, the show begins at 2:00am EST.

Just an afterthought: Maybe we should take pictures of the meteor shower and the best ones can be used for an IotD.

In what direction should we be looking?

Not that I'll be able to see anything...it's kind of cloudy out, and I'm in the city. :(

I went out before bed, then got up early this morning. The street lights precluded a good view of anything. I thought about wading into the middle of the river but I could just hear the local news teasers: "Woman, 42, dead after braving raging river waters to catch a glimpse of the Perseid meteor shower. An entire community mourns. Film at 11."

That assumes you told someone why you were going out. With your luck, it would be more like, "Woman, 42, dead after falling into the river. Police suspect she was intoxicated with alcohol and multiple street drugs. Film at 11."

Perseids coming up again.

Shawnee, please be careful. :D

That headline sucks. It should be "Woman, 44..." Oh, and "...a handful of people in the community mourn."

;)

I've been meaning to catch the Perseid since I first read about it in HS. We're having big storms right now, though.

They're supposed to be good late Tuesday, early Wednesday. How 'bout then?

It might clear up by then. I knew I should've bought that cheap telescope with my Coca Cola rewards.

You might be thinking of the Geminids.

Heavy Rains, 80-100% Cloud Cover. For the next three days, at least. Again.
Elspode • Aug 12, 2009 9:43 pm
I was up at 3:00 AM CDT, when some sources predicted an outburst of meteors. I don't really know if it happened, though, as I was busy talking to the cops about yet another car break in.

You've got to cut down on your criminal activity, Els.

I'm in Flagstaff AZ, we're completely clouded-out, and I'm very disappointed.I was looking forward to some decent sky-watching under clear desert skies :(

We're having the wettest, coldest, cloudiest summer ever.
And that's coming from me, who likes things cool.

I've glanced out of the window from time to time, but it's so overcast I'm not even risking the river.
If I went outside and stared upwards I'd drown in my own garden.

This has probably been the coolest summer in Ohio in many many years.
