Whats your phone?

DucksNuts • Jul 15, 2007 10:06 pm
Yes, its a dumb question, but someone has to ask them.

Sooooo, what kinda mobile (cell) do you have and what do you love/hate about it?

I have the Samsung A701, which is the one that crapped itself...but its a good phone. I quite like Samsungs. My complaint would be, the older model had a swivel phone, its was very handy for ...umm...some pics I like to take, the A501 has a phone that can take pics in both directions, but its not a swivel.

I also have the Samsung Blackjack..which I love love love!!! I was going to get a Sidekick, but fell in love with the Blackjack. It does absolutely everything and has GPS :D

I replaced my cell phone with a really cool address book.

I understand the need and desire for a phone. I know why it makes sense to carry one. I'm even tempted from time to time to get a new one. After carrying one for 8 years though, I thoroughly enjoyed canceling my service and busting my phone in half (complete with roaring "Hulk SMAAAASH!"). It got to the point that it felt more like a leash than a convenience. The only thing I missed was the ability to store phone numbers. The address book took care of that.

I'm not saying cellphones are bad. It was bad for me.

Threadjack?

Not at all, Perth. I agree... no leash for me.

Everyone who remembers will make jokes about me, but currently mine is the LG Chocolate.
It is great for music and ringtones.
The battery life is decent but I guess you gotta expect that at a media based fone.

All I need is a phone that can make and receive calls.

The LG 1300i.

"But, what about being able to play music on your phone?"
"I have an mp3 player."
"But how about a camera?"
"I have a digital camera."
"But you need the iPhone!"
"Why? So I can watch a movie on a screen the size of an index card? So that I can surf the net while on line at the bank? I'll pass."

I see no reason to buy the iPhone.
$600 for a phone?
Ahhh, no.

I'd rather pay attention while driving, thankyaverymuch.
elSicomoro • Jul 16, 2007 10:47 am
I just got a Motorola V3xx...it's alright...does what I need it to do, and I only paid $50 for it. I might upgrade to a BlackJack in the near future.

I've worried about being easily contacted, but if I don't feel like answering the phone, I don't. I'll deal with you later, fucker. :)

[QUOTE=Crimson Ghost;364338]All I need is a phone that can make and receive calls.

Bravo !!
This REALLY confuses the sales people. The last time I got a phone
(one of the LG models), the guy just couldn't understand that I had no interest in the camera shootin'-text messagein'-video watchin' phones.
Several times I had to say that I wanted a phone that could make and receive calls only. What a concept ...:D
DanaC • Jul 16, 2007 2:01 pm
My phone does what I need it to do: it receives calls, it allows me to make calls, I can send and recieve messages and it has a calendar function with alarm clock......that's it, that's all I need.

I've had my Nokia (housebrick) for about three years and am perfectly happy with it. Don't see the need to upgrade unless it dies.

Silver motorazr with a cliphanger shield... hooks on my gym bag, purse, thumb....
I like having a cell phone way better than having a house phone.

I'm a minimalist here, too. I switched to a cell phone as my only phone to be able to have it on long trips. I only want something to use as a telephone, so I don't happen to care about extras. I ended up with an LG PM-255 since my carrier was giving it to me for free and don't know half of what it can do. It has a camera, but I never use it. The phone sits in my laptop case at work or on a table at home. It does what I need it to do.
elSicomoro • Jul 16, 2007 6:00 pm
I do like having a camera and being able to check my e-mail. The calculator is nice, too.

Is that the V6 jinx? I like the clip hanger idea.

The razrs have a really bad name over here.
Clodfobble • Jul 16, 2007 8:23 pm
Worse than "razr?" 'Cause they're cool phones, but that's a pretty shitty name.
elSicomoro • Jul 16, 2007 8:38 pm
Or do you mean that they're crappy phones?
DucksNuts • Jul 16, 2007 9:05 pm
They are known to be really crappy phones over here, lots of software problems and the highest percentage return for repair rate in phones sold.
monster • Jul 16, 2007 9:44 pm
We use virgin PAYG and have older crappier bigger housebricks than Dana :D

same reasons.

5 people, 5 different phones.

Mine is a Samsung MM-A900 that looks like a Razor. I have had really good luck with Samsungs as well. They have a reputation of being durable and since I work where there are tile floors and have a tendency to drop mine a lot, that is an important feature. Also I carry mine in my pocket and do not like anything hanging on my belt, so it needs to be thin. Fits the bill.

We have Kyocera Phones, all they do is talk and text. That is about as fancy as I need. Last May at the boat club of the 10 people sitting outside, only 2 of that group had a phone that was any thing more than just a phone. Most of this group are considered working rich, and are self employed. The basic concincious is all you need is a phone.

I have no idea... its uh... silver.
Works fine for me, much better than my last pos that kept turning itself off. That one was replaced under warranty with one that had a battery life of about 32 minutes.

I have 3 other digital cameras but I still use the one on my phone pretty often.
BrianR • Jul 17, 2007 11:45 am
Mine is a Motorola V551. I only use it for talking and once or twice a year a text message. No games, four pics in two years (still on there), no internet and no fluff. It is capable of all this (except GPS) but I refuse to use it. I also have an MP3 player, digital camera, Gameboy etc. They do the job better than a phone anyway.

But...I cannot ditch the phone. It is my lifeline, my only means to get directions, better communications with Dispatch than QualComm gives me. and occasional hookups with friends scattered through the country.

I gotta have one.

Motorola Razr V3

I've had no problems with it, just passed my first year anniversary.
elSicomoro • Jul 17, 2007 2:38 pm
The battery lives on my last two phones (the Motorola and a Nokia 6230) have been nothing short of awesome...I can go 2 or 3 days without recharging.

I never used a cell phone on a regular until 2 years ago. Now it is my primary phone, and when I don't have it, it feels a little weird. But I'm not tethered to it...I don't always answer it and I don't always carry it with me.
rkzenrage • Jul 17, 2007 6:25 pm
Samsung SPH-A640
Web, bluetooth, camera, speakerphone, java, voice dial, gps.
I only use a few.
theotherguy • Jul 17, 2007 6:28 pm
Treo 650
Happy Monkey • Jul 17, 2007 7:29 pm
I don't have a cellphone, but this is very convincing.
elSicomoro • Jul 17, 2007 7:38 pm
Goddamn...that's funny. What would be even funnier is if Nokia actually did some advertising like this.
Uisge Beatha • Jul 17, 2007 7:40 pm
Funny? No, that's frikkin' hilarious! :rotflol:
