Laptop screen repair

So, I fucked up the screen on our laptop. There's a small half-inch gash in the screen towards the bottom center. The only thing I can think of is that maybe I tried to close the laptop with a pen sitting on the keyboard.

It's a 2-year-old Dell Latitude D610 notebook, and I have no intention of fixing it myself. What I'm wondering is...how much should I expect to pay for such a repair? Around $200? More or less?

Gracias.

I'd be surprised if Dell would do it for less than $500.

But you can get a screen on Fleabay for $100 or less... then it just becomes a matter of finding somebody to put it in for you, and arranging suitable compensation.

Obviously new screen time, period. I have a few of those D610s around and I like them. Very solid reliable machines. Assuming you have a suitable replacement, installing it is not very hard. I could walk you through it from here. No compensation required. Is that suitable to you? :)

Or mail me the system and I'll do it for you. You pay the freight both ways.

Appreciate the offer. I don't have a replacement at this point. I'm waiting to hear back from a family friend who might be able to do it or has a connection. We'll see.

One discount site of which I know lists just the part for $346 or $415, depending on the native resolution. While I haven't had to replace a screen yet, I'll bet BigV is quite right about it not being tough; finding a friend to help shouldn't be too bad, either.

Unfortunately, buying a new laptop may be cheaper than getting one repaired.

I'm seeing new laptops with rebates on sale at $399. I bought my used one for $260, and I see Ebay auctions on used laptops going over $300 on laptops without dual-core processors, memory over 1GB, and all of the other features on new laptops.

Once the parts and labor go past $400, you should consider buying a new one.
