Your opinion

OK, I paid $6 on Ebay for 8 sets of palm rests to replace the black ones on my Dell Inspiron 8100. Since 1 set was black, that gives me 7 choices. I'd like some opinions.

On the left are the ones that have a soft coating, either a smooth vinyl or a tacky rubber. The right ones are hard plastic like my current set.

I don't know the real names for the colors, so I'm going to borrow a page from GM and make up my own for marketing purposes.:D

From the left.

Green Hornet - A frosty green/brown sort of like the green on a housefly. The light caught it wrong so the brown is showing more than the green.
Tie Dye Jeans - Dark blue/light blue swirls
Dark Chocolate Brown
Smiley Yellow:biggrin:
Slate Gray
Joker Purple
Dark Blue Denim

Any help would be appreciated.

Jesus, aren't there enough fucking computer gimicks already? lol I can't believe they sell shit like this.

I have no opinion. I think they're a waste of money.

On one side use the Yellow, on the other side use the Tie Dye. I think that would look pretty :apimp:

Use the joker purple. You can't go wrong with purple.

I think the texture is more important than the look. Soft would be better than hard. I voted for the soft dark brown chocolate.

Probably a lot of people agree with you, which is why I picked them up for 99 cents on Ebay (+ $5 for shipping).

Still, I want something that says "I'm lugging this thing around because it's mine and not for work". If I had gotten a flat top like the IBM I use at work, I would have considered spray painting it. Since I think the Dell top looks sort of cool, I have scrapped that idea and am considering creating my own laptop skin.

BTW, swapping palm rests requires removing part of the case and detaching the keyboard, which is why I need to make a decision on a new pad. In some ways this is good since I will appreciate my choice.

I do not own or use a laptop.

If I did, I would use the soft rest, in the Tie Dye blue.

Then, I would sell the rest back on Ebay and make some of my $$ back :).

Is that when you get your tie caught in a ceiling fan and it chokes you to death?

Smiley yellow, because no one else will use that color and you'll be able to identify your machine from a long way away. Also, it looks very contrasty with the black case.

And the winner is:
It turns out that no tools are required to swap out the palm rests. I just have to slide out the battery and floppy drive.

It looks nice and the soft rest feels good. I will now start customizing the top.

Nice choice!

I voted for yellow because it was behind.

I can pretty safely say that even when I get bored and switch again, yellow will probably not be the one I choose.

I like that luminescent green.
