STEREO Observes a Lunar Eclipse of the Sun

STEREO is actually two spacecraft which, when fully operational, will make 3D pictures and movies of the Sun from their vantage points over a million miles apart. For now, this video shot by one of the craft is pretty fucking cool.

The Sun is very cool, writhing and bubbling like a live thing.

My mind is nearly boggled thinking about the 3D data that is going to come out of this mission. Can you imagine a solar prominence or a huge coronal mass ejection shown in 3D video?

I should have put this in the "What Gives You Wood" thread, 'cause I'm getting a stiffy.
