Back From Beyond - A Brief Photographic Journal

'Twas a sunny day in late July we embarked on an adventure of no more and no less than 31 days, across the heaving mountains, silent lakes and filthy industrial estates of this rather smashing country.

First stop was Wales which made up for in sheep what it lacked in vowels. A friendly, open, slightly backward bunch with some interesting pubs and more than a few adventures which I sadly have no time to describe in great detail. Imagine the barefooted crossing of rapids [stream], meetings with angels [drunk in pub] and the imbibing of pure amber nectar [drunk in pub].

This was the first port of call. How very... retro.

You will forgive the blurring of faces. I am yet to trust this new-fangled internet business.

Henceforth up to Scotland, stopping briefly at this stunning lake to wash our selves and clothes. This is real life. No mod cons, no bullshit. You and me and a river baby, that's all we need.

Canada? Pah. This is a British mountain. Ok so it's a quarter of the size, but it retains the majesty... the grandeur... awe-inspiring splendour... oh whatever here's me contemplating life and proper walking boots on a mountain pool.

This is a beautiful place called Findhorn in Scotland. Right on the edge of a nature reserve, it boasts a well-kept quay with, well, boats and stuff. I simply had to take this picture. Last one on the roll of film too.

Oh look dear, a waterfall! How pleasant.

Apparently this is the largest waterfall this side of the other side. I was not entirely convinced.

That's some nice countryside. I like the picture of the stream. Looks very inviting.

And that's all the pictures I've had time to scan in. I'm leaving my job tomorrow so probably won't have much time to post from now on, so thought I'd leave you with a few photies to peruse.

It was a fantastic trip. For anyone 'stuck in a rut', slightly or more dissilusioned with life, or just plain bored, I thoroughly recommend escaping the confusion with a little trip back to reality. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired, and forget about sofas and washing machines.

It's real. What more do you want?

When you said you were going to camp in a van, roughing it in the wild, I thought you meant a van. That motor home is pretty cushy. Nice way to travel. Thanks for the pictures.

What's the stripey fabric thingy for? Windbreak? Or was there a tussle with the awning on that camper?

Great pics. Shame on you for showing them to me right on the verge of Winter, and me with no time to go camping anywhere.

Oh but you haven't seen the inside! Cushy simply ain't the word! But it's got all you need - trashy mismatched curtains, five degree list, broken fridge, lukewarm gas fire - perfect!

It was a very windy day. My travelling partner remembered we had one and took great pleasure in hammering it in only to find it was absolutely no use at all (note he is sitting to the side of the windbreak.)

Always time to go camping! Went to Sweden one December - minus 10 degrees? Pah. Like a nice hot jacuzzi if you're sharing with the right person!

Those are some beautiful pictures. I've always wanted to go to the Isles and tour around away from the 'tourist traps', but damn I'm really aching to go now.

When you get to be our age, it would take a very hot patootie indeed, at ten below.
No matter how hot your partner, and how many feet(sic) of goose down surround you, sooner or later you have to pee.
