XP SP2

Has anyone here downloaded Service Pack 2 for XP yet? If so, did you encounter any problems with your system once you installed it?

I downloaded it twice tonight--once it installed, my system wouldn't fully reboot. I then tried to reboot again--the system would load up, but nothing worked...couldn't pull up any programs or folders. I couldn't figure out what the fuck was going so I did a system restore.

Anyone?

I downloaded it on both my desktop and laptop with no major problems. There were a few new icons in the control panel and had a few security related pop ups after booting up after the download. Other than that everything is running fine on both machines. I did follow their suggestions and backed up my system before installing SP2 though, just in case.

I did it. Took a long time, which I'm not used to with a fast connection.
When I opened Outlook Express, they had installed a new version. Everything was gone, all emails, folders and address book.

System restore saved the day, then I went to the download site and read the fine print. Nope, they don't warn you, bastards.
Someone told me the files for OE could be searched for and backed up, but I couldn't find them.

btw- someone told me their daughter tried to do it to her laptop and got the blue screen of death. Ended up with a complete reinstall. Anecdotal, but who knows.

I didn't have any problems. I did notice the new security cosole. It even managed to behave with my McAfee Internet security, which can be a jealous beast when it comes to other security software, even Windows itself.

I wonder if the issues I'm having are due to the Windows Firewall. I'll try and install it again.

Our IT fella loaded it up to try it out on his laptop before loading it everywhere else in the office. He said it caused a few programs to stop running properly. After a while, he uninstalled it and is going to wait a month or two until it gets tweaked..

Syc, I do remember that my Norton firewall had issues with the new Windows firewall when I installed SP2. Basically it said I could have one or the other running, it prefered I turn off the Windows firewall, which I did. I couldn't have both like I had before the install.

I got a cd of the programe loaded then all hell unleashed
Couldnt use E-mail,lost drivers,could't conect to Net in the end had to system restore and get new graphics card as SP2 fucked up my system
Only now around two weeks later is my system nearly back to normal
binned it wont bother..

I've been running it for a couple of weeks now with zero difficulties of any kind.

I'm running it, use Outlook 2004 (part of the Office 2004 suite) and had no problems. I have McAfee Anti Vi and it came up and asked if I wanted to use Windows settings or McAfee settings, I chose McAfee, and I've had NO problems.

The only annoyance was the occasional "block or unblock" dialog boxes. Once all the programs had been run and I unblocked them, I haven't had a bit of trouble.

Installed flawlessly. No problems encountered so far.

I'll let you know if anything wonky happens.

Of course, I refuse to use Outlook and use Explorer for browsing only rarely.

Service Pack 2 is ruining my life... I am unable to print from an online database that I use for lawschool because of the service pack's pop up blocker. It has been a real headache. I'm sure I could fix it, but I'm lazy.

I use Outlook heavily and IE as well, and still...zero problems. My machine is the bastard child of a dishwasher and a clock radio, and the only component in it newer than three years old is my secondary (non-boot) HD.

Files being copied or downloaded into a folder no longer just "appear" -- file explorer has to be refreshed manually, it seems, following SP2. Annoying.

Reinstalled SP2 tonight...had to reboot again after the initial reboot, but so far so good.
