Eligible Spouses
TIME Magazine says less people a willing to commit to marriage, or can't find a suitable candidate. This is especially true in religious communities where marriage and kids are expected, like Mormons and Orthodox Jews. In communities like those, marriage is expected at a certain age, like the Jew's 22 for boys, and 19 for girls.
I think these norms were established when life expectancy was much shorter. Today, these are the ages when college and exciting worldly opportunities are beckoning. But all is not rosy outside those sects, the general population shows an imbalance of available mates. ![]() It gets worse as age increases. ![]() And that's without factoring a college grad wanting to marry another grad, and all the requirements individual people may have.
