Failing that, one of my favorite tricks is the old "I had a date and tickets to the (Insert Noun Here), but she cancelled. Are you free on (Insert Time Here)?" The non-date first-date will get you in under her radar screens and allow you to strafe important targets of emotional distance with impunity. Let modern warfare be your key to a successful relationship.
