2/20: Frozen auto

Nic sends along this beaut of a frozen auto. Love it.

Here in the mid-atlantic section of the US, like a lot of the US we have had the warmest winter on record. I'm going on record to say that I'm against it. I want winter to be winter. Winter this year has been 50 degrees during the day. The lack of snow is putting us in drought conditions already: a single snowfall left about 4" here and that has been it. A friend called from San Fran to brag about their weather but it turned out we had the exact same weather here.

I don't want the ice storms that hit other parts of the country - that kills the trees and is really hard to deal with. But I wouldn't mind a good 2-foot snowfall to make everything purty.

No kidding. Take a look at the U.S. Drought Monitor and you can see just how bad drought conditions are in the United States.

What's interesting to me is, if you cross reference it with an IOTD from a few days ago, and with this chart of snow accumulation From Feb. 2-8, you can see where snow is keeping the drought away, and where lack of heavy snow is preciptating drought conditions.

EDIT: I'm so dumb, I didn't even notice the season-to-date snowfall map, located here.

I am reminded of the great scene in Fargo when Lundegard comes out to find his car completely iced and he proceedes to hack it out rather manically.

That doesn't look right, for one thing the ice looks more coffee coloured than ice coloured, and the rest of the scene doesn't look much more icy than a typical frosty morning ?

Here in NZ it's of course Summer, but it sure hasn't seemed like it - rain, hail, strong winds, low clouds, you name it we got it - all "Summer" it seems, today looks quite nice out there for a change, but still only 15 degrees or so (C, not F :-)).

That ice is very dirty, consisting mainly of water from the splashes of bypassing vehicles that then froze. If you look closely, the right side of the car has far less ice hanging from it.

Hey! I didn't realize there was a Kiwi here! North Island or South?

Funny you should mention your weather... I have relatives in Wellington, and recent emails from them have consisted largely of complaining about the complete lack of summer so far this year. Waaahh.

I can't see the right side of the vehicle above. Would somebody who has Photoshop please turn it around for me? Thanks.

Just as I thought. NBN is wrong, again. The right side of the vehicle has just as much ice hangin' from it. :p

:-) Ahh we Kiwis are everywhere, personally though you'll find me in the Garden City (Christchurch, mid east coast of the South Island).
