GOLD CANADA GOLD!!!!

The atmosphere even here (4 hours away from the Olympics) is electric!

I know people who have gone to Vancouver and said the place was amazing. The police were there, the partiers were there, but not causing issues..... The people were enjoying the family freindly events outside the actual events, the outdoor shows were fantastic...
Glad to see a great 17 day show for 82 countries, in our Country, go so well.

Wins the Olymics... well in what way do you mean?... Canada won 14 golds.. this is GREAT. Total medals, no. But still a great showing.
Every country did their best, brought their fans, and partied with everyone.
But the thing I like is the hosting BC did, for every fan regardless of the Country. To me, that is a huge win.

Maybe it's just me.

But this Olympics seems to have been overrun by depressing news events. The snowboarder who screwed up an easy jump and blew the gold for the second time in her career... the figure skater whose mom died 2 days before she was going to skate... the speed skater alternate who missed the race entirely because his cellphone was off... the speed skater who was disqualified because his coach wrongly told him to change lanes...

I don't think there's actually more bad stuff going on than there normally would be. But usually, the reporters are all busy getting off on the "hard work for years, not gonna give up on the dream, and oh hey let's take a look at what Apollo Ohno eats for breakfast" kind of background stories. This year, it's like they're all just depressed, and they're reporting on nothing but crushed dreams.

Joannie Rochette was the figure skater that lost her mother the day (or 2) before she was to skate. She still competed, she won bronze. She also shared the Terry Fox medal of Courage with the..... oh crap.... Norweigan? skiier that fell and broke her ribs and still got bronze.
I guess I just looked at is as these people gave it their all, it might not have been gold, but each of them deserved their recognition.

Every sport has falls/mistakes, the pressure of the world watching you must be huge, I am honestly suprised more people did not make mistakes. In some cases it makes the athletes work harder for next time.
I am not a sports fan, but I watched most of the events over the last 17 days, Every country gave it their all, it was amazing to see.

With all the people who expected Canada to fail as competitors and as hosts, the negative was far surpassed by the positive.

I watched/listened to very little of the announcers or the news. I watched some of the sports that were of interest to me and they were wonderful. The Canada/USA hockey games were both awesome. What I saw I enjoyed. I tried hard not to listen to all the BS surrounding the games and just enjoy the games themselves. I think limiting the commercialized input helped me.

Canada did a wonderful job hosting these games. I enjoyed them more than any in recent memory.
