Conflicted protagonists, or antagonists who have somewhat understandable motives, are not common at all in kids' shows.
That's interesting. Thankyou. We tend to go for conflicted protagonists in our tv generally, and that applies to children's tv too. Doctor Who is a classic example. It is written with eight year olds in mind and has a hero who commits genocide and then has to deal with that emotional legacy. Interesting that this wouldnt apply in kids tv over there, given that anti-heroes and conflicted heroes seem such a staple of American adult tv.

most likely/ main reasons being

(1) can't vote
(2) kids can do it at the same time. if we don't they have to wait til they're 18 and maybe miss out of various uni scholarships etc.

main con: cost. very expensive.

is not a huge huge step -you don't lose british citizenship, you become dual.

British comedy is often referred to as "potty humor"

I'd certainly miss double entendre. Thinking about it, we're just rude really aren't we? I was reading an American review of a British comedy* the other day and it said something like, "I wouldn't call this family viewing - parents will want to watch it first as it contains many sexual references unsuitable for children." I honestly can't remember what it was now, but it was something SO tame. I guess in this country we assume innuendo goes over children's heads, and when it doesn't, they know enough for it not to harm them!

My son, at age 3, once did a Nazi salute and said "Heil Hitler" while we were getting out of the car. He saw it in The Sound of Music. "Hey, what's your problem, Dallas, why would you let your kid watch shit like The Sound of Music?" We felt we had to warn the daycare so they'd no what was going on if he did it at school. I could just imagine the whole room of 3 yos saying "Heil Hitler."

Some years later, in first grade, he informed his teacher that Martin Scorsese is the greatest director of all time. That one, he got from Animaniacs. ("Yeah," I told her, "we played Raging Bull and Taxi Driver for him last weekend.")

I remember watching Kill Bill with my brother and my 10 year old niece. She loved it.

we felt it necessary to warn the teachers after the kids saw Monty python's Holy Grail. We haven't dared show them the Life of Brian yet, but we so want to....

Bri,

You came off originally with the idea you were inapropriatly flirting by txt. Smooth is doing the right thing, yes even if it's don't forget to vote. There is a line between the profs and the students, I think the profs should be seen to be not even close to the line.

You go Smooth.

Now, if you are being really, really sarchastic....then well, I didn't get it. Ha, ha. (courtesy laff)

Speaking of flirting in general. Before you made this thread I was thinking to myself that flirting is a lost art form.

I was even wishing I knew how to flirt. It would be something to amuse myself with. It's much more classy than a bold. "let's do it" with my eyes. At my age I opt for the sunglasses. If I could flirt I could still have a way to engage.

bri, I would be the last person to look down on you.

thanks, sky. You are a sweet one

Actually, a little flirting is what keeps life interesting. I don't think they can arrest you just yet for it (she bop, she bop...)

OK, confession: I flirted a little with my history prof's TA.

He was CUTE!

Oh well, quarter's over, no more history classes. I'm safe!

Maybe.
