I suffered from free-range brain earlier. But it won't tell me what it was doing.

I finally got to sleep around 1000, and now I'm up and raring to ... go back to sleep.

I'm going to try to stay up until around midnight, and then (probably fruitlessly) try to get some sleep.

No power loss. No squishy carpets.

But I do have an industrial pack of chicken and a case of Pringles.

A disturbance between the Gulf and Caribbean has a low chance of becoming a tropical storm. Even with the eastern Gulf's now warmest water.

The significance is its movement towards the north or north-west. Picking up significant water over a very warm Gulf could drop significant about of rain in a very dry Louisiana or northern TX. Dallas would welcome that rain in any kind of storm.

Whats happening with Katia? Apparently she isn't gonna make landfall. Well, at least the kids will have some nice waves at the beach.

Katia was obviously becoming a tropical storm just after it left Africa. About the same time Irene was first mentioned here. Katia's track directs it towards Bermuda. A non-event to landlubbers. And too far out to make any significant Labor Day waves.

The 'disturbance' has reached the warmest Gulf of Mexico waters. It probably will not be a tropical storm. And will dump seriously needed rain on drought states around Louisiana during the Labor Day weekend.

Attention Central Texas. Hurricane Nate threatens to flood your lands sometime late next week. The bad news: if it does what historically happens, that storm will pass to the south. Creating lots of wind and little moisture.

Attention East Coast surfers. Tropical Storm Maria should pass off the coast sometime late next week. Surf conditions should be good without interference from the government - ie mandatory evacuations.

Yep, that's about how it happens: the drought dries all the land into a hard rock, so that when the rain comes it can't be absorbed fast enough, and we flood with relatively little rain. Where are my locusts? I ordered locusts with this thing!

They say Texas is god's country. What did Texas do to incur the wrath of god? After all, Louisiana created David Duke. Why did god not smitten Louisiana? Oh.

Where god's chosen ones are blessed, even hurricanes become non-events. God has endowed his blessing on people so righteous as to even create the Cellar. All praise he who is so almighty. Put your hands on the radio and pray with me (after a word from our sponsor).
