They say cut Carbs, refined sugar is a carb. Your body changes the Carbs to sugar but refined sugar does not pass go collecting $200, just goes straight into the blood causing blood sugar to spike. It's way harder for the insulin or Metformin&Co to handle spikes.

Yeah, it's a choice, although it may be made much more difficult by economics, family, allergies, peers, etc. But hard or easy it is a choice.

My father had to go to the hospital with an allergic reaction. After they ran all the tests they asked how long ago he had the heart attack? Say what? No heart attack. Yes you did. So he decided he would stop using cream and sugar in his coffee. He lost about 30 lbs and told everyone it was easy, just changed to black coffee. Oblivious to my mother changing his diet.
