My personal experience from having a moderate interest in photography, having an SLR, and looking for pocket able cameras that take higher quality pictures is a strong preference for Canon.
They have a large range to find one that fits your niche of price and performance. We had a fujifilm point and shoot years ago, it did take nice pictures. |

I can recommend that one stay away, far away, from the FujiFulm FinePix S3280 (a large point and shoot 24x zoom bridge camera, and my personal camera, atm). The lens is just too slow.
It does take good panoramas and macros, though.
