I read a little about that rail line last week. Fascinating stuff.
The locomotive pics here show a difference of design philosophy from western ones that i never realized before. To our (my, anyway) eyes, in a different setting it might be hard to figure out its purpose. I just can't see the engine pulling a 100 cars across Nebraska at 80 mph. |

Right, they're Donkey engines for low speed shuffling cars around. My Dad's cousin did that for a steel mill in Hamilton, Ontario. Short heavy boxy locomotives.
