I am trying this summer to get both kids started with mowing the lawn.

Not really fair to the boy because he is starting mowing at an earlier age than she is, but life's not fair. He's a little small though and gets tired pushing the big mower. So I take turns with him and we mow it together.

Actually, so far, I'm mowing the back swath around obstacles and then letting them do the rest. I don't want them to hit a concrete curb or pipe or something and break the mower.

So far, my girl can't get the mower started, and my son can start it on the first pull, but my girl doesn't get spent when doing the mowing and my boy has to stop and rest.

Hmmm ... the old guy in me says this forces them to work together... they'll see their not the same and have different talents/abilities etc... That is good.
