Vancouver will be fine in January. The mountains will be cloaked in snow, but you'll have regular pavement in the city. It's right, right on the water so it is unlikely to get cold enough to have snow on the ground.
If you *are* in the neighborhood, please make it known. I'd love to buy you a beer. Vancouver is only three or four hours away from home.
