I can see the appeal of taking part in a "new frontiers" type of environment, where you are an active part of creating and building up a new environment, economy, sociology, etc.

I can see the appeal of thinking, "This thing is going to be around for 50, 100 years, and as tech gets better it will get more and more like reality, and I get to be part of the first generation - my plot of land will some day be the "old money" section."

But yeah, I just don't have enough time in my life to split it in two.

Also, this really seems like the sort of thing that's laying the groundwork, testing the infastructure for a much richer sensory environment later - 3d full surround type of thing.
